Welcome to our Department website.

  • Congratulations to the ten CSULB Biotechnology Certificate Program students have each been awarded $26,520 as CIRM stem cell research interns for 2014-2015 academic year.
  • Congratulations to one of our recent graduate from Biology. Daniela Moreno-Habel, a recent department undergraduate and RISE Fellow, now at University of Washington, was awarded the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship for 2013-2016. Daniela is currently researching translation-DNA repair conflicts in microbes. While at CSULB, Daniela earned first author on a peer-reviewed research article in the Journal of Invertebrate Pathology.
  • Kudos to one of our recent graduates! Jenny Pham, a recent departmental graduate who is now in Harvard University's Ph.D. program studying molecular evolution, was awarded a prestigious NSF graduate research fellowship for 2013-2016.
  • Undergraduate Amberle McKee (Biological Sciences) was recognized twice for her poster presentation at the annual meeting of the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology in San Francisco in January 2013: she was awarded the Best Student Poster Award, and was a runner-up for the Adrian Wenner Strong Inference Award (both in the Division of Invertebrate Zoology). Her poster was entitled Substrate attributes determine gait in a terrestrial snail. Congratulations Amberle!
  • Biological Sciences undergraduate Ashley Moran has won the 2013 CSUPERB-Howell Award for her work on angiogenesis during ovarian recrudescence!

These are exciting times for study and research in the field of Biological Sciences. Our faculty research and curriculum offer exposure and specialization in all areas of biology. Together, our faculty and students use the latest approaches including bioinformatics, proteomics, genetic engineering, statistical models, and behavioral tracking to perform cutting edge research. Both graduate and undergraduate research opportunities exist in all our faculty research programs.
