Hamid R. Kavianian, professor of Chemical Engineering received his B.S. in chemical engineering from Shiraz University in Iran and his M.S. and Ph.D. from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado.
Dr. Kavianian served as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California teaching a variety of safety and environmental courses. Dr. Kavianian has conducted safety, environmental, and chemical engineering research and development for Argonne National Laboratory and Fortune 100 companies. A former member of The United States Department of Energy's Operational Readiness Review Team for occupational safety and environmental requirements, he has also headed the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency's occupational safety and environmental training program for U.S. Department of Defense personnel in the U.S., Europe, Korea, and Japan. Dr. Kavianian chaired the Process Safety Technical Group of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE). A recipient of numerous awards, Dr. Kavianian has been named "Safety Professional of the Year" by the ASSE's Orange County (California) Chapter and by Region I of ASSE
