Industry Partner Cadence Design Systems provides Scholarships and Technology to CECS Majors

Beginning in 1999 the Computer Engineering & Computer Science Department and Cadence Design Systems Inc. started a "flagship" collaboration that would include specially designed curriculum and internships providing our students with knowledge of the complex integrated circuit design using industry technology. This collaboration was launched in 2000 and has grown to include the Electrical Engineering Department and continues to provide ten annual scholarships for CECS and EE students.

The main features of this collaboration include:

1. The CSULB Center for Electronic Design Automation (EDA), also known as the Cadence lab. This lab consists of sixteen cubicles with workstations, phones and a key card entrance giving the students a real world work atmosphere although it is housed in the Vivian Engineering Center here on campus.
2. Internships
   The interns work on Cadence projects with Cadence managers. They also research Cadence tool usage and develop lab manuals to help CSULB faculty develop modern curriculum for our programs.

3. Scholarships
   Each year of the program Cadence has funded ten $4,200 scholarships for students in the Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering degree programs.
4. Modern curriculum
   In addition to redesigning several of our courses to include Cadence tool usage, we have developed four new courses including IC design, and System on Chip Design. These courses can be seen at http://crete.cadence.com, the Cadence public repository for curriculum.
5. Equipment
   Without the donation of the expensive equipment needed to run this software none of these accomplishments would have been possible.
