APLE Program: Assumption Program of Loans for Educators

The APLE (Assumption Program of Loans for Educators) program will target future math and science teachers for its grants, which pay off educational loans up to $19,000. APLE program website

TEACH Grant

Funded by the Federal Govt, this program provides up to $4,000 per year for future science teachers. In return for funding you must teach in a high need school (if you don't the grant becomes a loan with interest). Visit the Financial Aid office and the website for details. TEACH Grant website

Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) International STEM Education scholarships

Beginning in 2010, AFCEA International will award 35 scholarships of $5,000 each per year. PLUS $1,000 per year for the first three years in your classroom to be used for supplies and supporting your students. Students eligible to compete for AFCEA STEM scholarships must be U.S. citizens attending an accredited college or university in the U.S. and majoring in Education for the purpose of teaching a STEM subject in a U.S. middle or secondary school. Additionally, nominees must be enrolled full time and hold a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Applicants can access the AFCEA STEM Teacher application form on the AFCEA website.

College of Education Scholarships

There are several scholarships for future teachers (elem and secondary). You only need to fill out a single scholarship application in order to be eligible for any/all of them. You do not need to apply to a specific scholarhip. PLEASE NOTE: Boeing sponsors scholarships specifically for math/science secondary teachers and there's the Oliphant Scholarship for science teachers (SSCP or MS in science education).
