Dr. Abarca graduated from Boston University’s Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Sociology and Social Welfare in 2011. His research interests include economic sociology, in particular the impact of employment on individuals and families, social movements, grassroots organizing, community development, immigration policy, international migration, and ethnographic methods. He has taught courses on research, social policy, the implications of racism for social work practice, and multicultural education at the undergraduate and graduate level. Dr. Abarca’s professional experience includes child welfare, union and community organizing, crisis intervention, team facilitation, case management, program development, social policy analysis, and research. He is bilingual and bicultural and he was a doctoral fellow with the Council of Social Work Education’s Minority Fellowship Program.
