Scholarly and Creative Interests:
Dr. Kauer's research has an interdisciplinary focus that infuses feminist cultural studies theories and social psychological theories to examine socio-cultural issues in sport and physical activity. Specifically, Dr. Kauer's scholarship explores issues around gender and sexuality in sport and the intersections of social identities (e.g., race, class, ethnicity) using qualitative methods such as Institutional Ethnography, semi-structured, and focus group interviews. Her research topics include queer theory analysis of lesbian identified college coaches, stereotypes of female athletes, and the role of social justice education in coaching education.
