Statement of Professional Engagement:

Sam Vickovic’s main areas of specialization are institutional corrections, (especially correctional officers), and the intersection of media, crime, and criminal justice systems.  His current research focuses on how the negative public image of correctional officers may influence organizational attitudes like job satisfaction and job stress.   He uses both quantitative and qualitative methods within his research, and specializes in ethnographic content analysis.  Recent research projects include a content analysis of newspaper articles concerning correctional officers and a study assessing factors influencing organizational commitment among correctional officers.
