Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at California State University Long Beach (CSULB) is sponsored by the College of Health and Human Services. With the exception of our Executive Director and Office Administrator, OLLI at CSULB is operated totally by volunteers, from faculty to committees and clerical work. There are four eight-week sessions each year. Classes are typically ninety minute periods and meet one day a week. Classes are held Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Computer classes are two hour sessions that meet Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM through 5:15 PM. There is an open lab on Fridays available to all OLLI students for individualized help and practice.
OLLI offers widely varied courses of interest to persons 50 years of age or older. There is no academic prerequisite for admission, or to understand and participate in the classes, just a desire to learn.
OLLI at CSULB would like to thank Mr. Bernard Osher and the Bernard Osher Foundation for their generous support of our mission to provide quality educational opportunities throughout the life span. This foundation, based in San Francisco, supports a variety of University-based, lifelong learning programs for adults fifty years of age or older in California, and throughout the United States.

California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) President F. King Alexander announced a $1 million endowment from the Bernard Osher Foundation in support of the campus’ Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI at CSULB), located in the College of Health and Human Services.
“This endowment is a tribute to our members who volunteer their time to make OLLI at CSULB a dynamic learning environment for mature adults; and to the College of Health and Human Services’ visionary leaders over the past 15 years who have seen value in promoting lifelong learning and in mingling generations on a university campus,” said Barbara White, CSULB faculty member and executive director of OLLI at CSULB.
This is the second endowment received from the Bernard Osher Foundation in support of OLLI at CSULB. Our OLLI was cited by the foundation as an exemplary program because of the quality of its educational opportunities, its robust fundraising plan, and the incorporation of a new “wellness” component—the LifeFit Center —that provides individualized exercise programs for older adults.
OLLI at CSULB is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the positive aspects of aging through educational, social and personal renewal opportunities for adults 50 and older. Founded in 1996 as “Senior University,” it became OLLI in 2006 with receipt of its first $1 million endowment from the Osher Foundation.
