Recreation Students Shine at Recent Conference

                      CSU Award Winners

CHHS' Receration & Leisure Studies students made their mark recently at the March 2013 California Parks and Recreation Society State Conference.  The California Foundation for Parks and Recreation recognized 11 scholarship recipients from throughout the state, including five CSULB students.  In fact, San Diego State University was the only other university with more than one scholarship recipient – two SDSU students received scholarships.  A total of $14,000 was awarded, with $7,500 going to CSULB students.

The CSULB students, and the scholarships they will receive, are:

  • DJ Albarian,  Teague Scholarship sponsored by California Association of Park and Recreation Commissioners and Board Members (CAPRCBM)
  • Lance Evans, District 10 Scholarship
  • Rebecca Kopczack, Ann Arge Nathan Spirit Award
  • Josh Lainfiesta, Fred Brooks Park Ops Scholarship
  • Kelly Teeter, California Association of Park and Recreation Commissioners and Board Members (CAPRCBM)

The Department of Recreation & Leisure Studies prepares students for positions of supervision and administration in public recreation and parks, therapeutic recreation, outdoor education, camp administration, voluntary youth and adult services, travel and tourism, and commercial recreation.  Alumni from our program work in diverse careers that benefit individuals and communities.
