Faculty Information

Lori Brown   Ph.D., Assistant Professor
Dr. Brown received her B.A. from California State University Long Beach, M.A. from Northwestern University, and Ph.D. in Communications from Northwestern University. She joined CSULB in 2007. Her expertise is in business communication and employee burnout studies.

Hongyu Chen   Ph.D., Assistant Professor
Dr. Chen received his M.E. in Electrical Engineering from Peking University, MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas, and Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Texas at Dallas. He has been with the Department since 2012. His expertise is in business intelligence, analytics, big data, and data mining.

Robert Chi   Ph.D., Professor
Dr. Chi received his B.S. from National JiaoTong University, M.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Texas at Austin. He joined CSULB in 1991. He is currently the Associate Dean for Accreditation for the College of Business Administration. His specialties are in artificial intelligence and electronic commerce.

HM Michael Chung   Ph.D., Professor
Dr. Chung receives his MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles and Ph.D. from University of California, Los Angeles in Information Systems. He joined CSULB in 1995. He is currently the Director for Center of Information Systems and Technology. His expertise is in business process reengineering.

Mo Khan   Ph.D., Professor
Dr. Khan received his MS from Texas A&M University and his Ph.d. from Texas A&M University in Industrial Engineering and Business. He joined in CSULB in 1984. He was the Chair of the IS department, and Associate Dean and Dean of the College of Business Administration. His expertise is in quantitative method and statistics.

Melody Kiang   Ph.D., Professor
Dr. Kiang received her M.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in Information Systems in 1991. She joined CSULB in 1999. She is Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Electronic Commerce Research and an associate editor of Decision Support Systems. Her expertise is in artificial intelligence, electronic commerce, and business application development.

Lee

C. Sophie Lee   Ph.D., Professor
Dr. Lee received her B.S. from National ChiaoTung University, MBA from the University of Texas at Austin, and Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Texas at Austin. She joined CSULB in 1998. Her expertise is in database management, application development, and enterprise systems.

Ying Liu   Ph.D., Assistant Professor
Dr. Liu received his B.S. from Xian Jiao Tong University, MSc in Computer Science from the University of Southern California, and PH.D. in Information Systems from University of Arizona. He joined CSULB in 2007. His expertise is in business intelligence and web application development.

Khosrow Moshirvaziri   Ph.D., Professor
Dr. Moshirvaziri received three M.S. and an Engineer Degrees from Stanford University, in Systems Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, and Computer Sciences, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UCLA. He joined CSULB in 1990. His expertise is in computer networks, modeling and simulation, as well as in statistical and quantitative decision making and optimization.

Thang Nguyen   Ph.D., Associate Professor
Dr. Nguyen received his MS from Georgia Institute of Technology in Information and Computer Science, and Ph.D. from George Mason University in Information Technology and Engineering. He joined CSULB in 1999. His expertise is in software process, software development and management, biologically-inspired systems and business applications, statistics and quantitative methods for business.

C.J. Mike Walter   Ph.D., Professor
Dr. Walter receives his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Iowa. He is the Distinguished Professor of Economics and Business Administration at CSULB, Executive Assistant to the CSULB President for Community Relations, and the name holder of the University’s icon “the Mike and Arline Walter Pyramid”. His expertise is in international business.

Yu-Ming Wang   Ph.D., Professor
Dr. Wang received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the National Taiwan University, MBA from National ChengChi University, and PH.D. in Information Systems in Information Systems from New York University. He joined CSUL in 1999. His research expertise is in the economic modeling of information systems and pricing models in electronic commerce.

Angela Aleiss   Ph.D., MFA
Dr. Aleiss received her B.A. from the Johns Hopkins University and her M.F.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University. She joined CSULB in 2002.  She’s an author and has written for national newspapers. Her expertise is in journalism, public presentations, and on-camera interviews.

Avi Asher   Ph.D., MBA
Dr. Asher received his MS from the University of Southern California in mathematics, his MBA from Claremont Graduate School, and Ph.D. in Information Systems from the Claremont Graduate School. His expertise is in application development and database management systems.

James Coari   M.S.J.
Mr. Coari received his Master of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University. He spent many years in corporate communications working with Fortune 500 companies, startups, and non-profits. He has taught at USC’s Marshall School of Business and in Vietnam and China. He joined CSULB in 2005. His expertise is in business communications.

Hubert Huynh   MBA
Mr. Huynh received his MS in Information and Computer Science from the University of Hawaii and MBA from the University of California at Los Angeles. He is currently a partner and consultant at IT21 Inc. His expertise is in business programming, system analysis and design, and database management systems.

Deborah Jensen   M.A.
Ms. Jensen received her M.A. in English from California State University, Long Beach. She was vice president of operations at Bobit Publishing and director of manufacturing at Petersen Publishing. Her specialty is in business communications.

Debbie McElroy   MBA
Ms. McElroy received her MBA from the California State University at Long Beach. She was vice president of strategic planning at Beech Street Corporation. She is currently a full time lecturer at the Department with expertise in business communications and productivity software.

Carol Nader   M.A.
Ms. Nader received her B.A. in English and an M.A. in English Literature from CSULB.  She was named to the Graduate Dean's List of University Scholars and Artists. She joined CSULB in 1996.  She has extensive administrative experience and  was a registered representative in the securities business for 15 years.  Her specialty is in business communications.

Mohsen Sahebjame   M.A.
Mr. Sahebjame received his M.A. from the California State University at Long Beach. He is a networking specialist at CamtTek Inc. and an electronic quality engineer at FASCO. His expertise is in network and telecommunications, system analysis and design, and database management systems.

Thomason

Asela Thomason   MBA
Ms. Thomason received his MBA from the California State University, Long Beach. She is a web developer at Center Stage Dance Academy, US Navy the Seabees, and a consultant at Arnold Cicerone and Associates. Her specialty is in system analysis and design, productivity software and critical thinking curriculum.

Bruce Wilcox

Bruce Wilcox   M.S., MBA  website

Mr. Wilcox received his M.S. in Computer Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University and his MBA from UCLA.  He is currently completing a Ph.D. program at the Claremont Graduate University with a focus in data mining and computational finance.  He is a Director at Sierra Systems, an information systems consulting firm, with a specialty in Business Intelligence systems consulting.
