Dance Major on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’

A CSULB sophomore dance major made a national impression this summer on the Fox TV show “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Clarice Ordaz, who has been dancing since age 2, was among the top 10 on the reality series’ eighth season. Although eliminated when contestants were reduced to eight, she still qualified to perform in the show’s 32-city U.S. tour that concluded in November.

Teaching French to Spanish Speakers Lauded

The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages recognized Professor Clorinda Donato of the Romance/German/Russian Languages and Literatures Department (RGRLL), along with alumni Philana Rustin and Nicolas Bordage, for their research on the effectiveness of CSULB’s “French for Hispanophones” courses that teach French to students who already speak Spanish.

Their work is providing insights into teaching additional languages to students with multiple language skills. The program “is inclusive of their previous language skills and recognizes them as valid pathways into the acquisition of a third, fourth, or fifth language. This department and this program provide an understanding of how languages work,” said Markus Muller, RGRLL’s Language Program coordinator.
