CSULB Hosts, Wins at International Business Strategy Competition

Two teams of CSULB students won first-place prizes at the International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition, held at Cal State Long Beach this spring for the first time in the event’s nearly 50-year history.

In the longest running and most comprehensive global business competition, student teams are grouped into simulated worlds and vie against each other in managing simulated or virtual companies, making business and financial decisions judged by academics and business executives.

This year, 24 teams out of about 2,600 invited international universities participated, including from London, Canada, Washington and Oregon. Several California State Universities were also involved, including four CSULB teams.

At the MBA level, the team of Mark Haynes of California, James Otoski of Ohio, Wei-cheng Du of Taiwan, Matma Chaube of India and Zeynep Tuncer of Turkey won first place for overall performance in its simulated world, while the CSULB undergraduate team including Staci Korff, Angela Hsu, Anthony Chethalan and Justin Teplinski shared first place in overall performance with Pacific Lutheran University from Washington in its group.
