I am very proud to say that I was a LBSC graduate and athlete who had the pleasure to return to CSULB as the Track and Field Head Coach. I was on the track and field team 1957-1958 and was an assistant coach in 1959. Afterwards I pursued my career coaching in high schools, Glendale Community College, and then returned to CSULB as the Track and Field and Cross-Country Head Coach (1990-1994). I have won the PCAA in Cross-Country, Coach of the Year Award and then later coached at CSU Los Angeles until I retired. I am in four “Hall of Fames.” I have done track clinics all over the world. In addition, I have written many articles and books on coaching Track and Field.
Being on the first NCAA Track & Field team.
I attended most of the events such as 49er Days, Brown and Gold Day, dances, and others. My favorite hang-out on campus was the physical education building.
After college I became a head track and field coach at two great universities.

Appreciate the work you have accomplished in obtaining your degree because a degree from CSULB can take you anywhere.
Coach Tansley comes back to his alma mater and takes on new challenges as Head Coach at Cal State Long Beach.

1983 PCAA Cross Country Championship Team.

After only a year after coming aboard as coach, Coach Tansely anticipated a great season as the 49ers picked up great new and returning talent in taking on the PCAA’s Big 3 which included San Jose State, UC Irvine, and Fresno State. (Taken from Press-Telegram, Tuesday, February 15, 1983)
