Internal CSULB Funding Opportunities

Internally administered support for research, scholarly, and creative activity (RSCA) is available from 3 sources/programs:

  • Mini-grants and Summer Stipends (MGSS)
  • Reassigned Time; and
  • Discretionary Funding from ORSP/AA for Research Initiatives

Funding and regulations for MGSS are mandated by the Legislature and the Chancellor's office, while funding and regulations for reassigned time and discretionary initiatives are determined on the campus.

  1. Mini-grants and Summer Stipends for 2014-2015 (MGSS):

    The Chancellor's office has reinstated system-level funding for RSCA and allocated $195,321 for CSULB for the 2014-2015 AY based upon FTES. A specific plan for the criteria for disbursing the funds Adobe PDF Document will be formulated shortly.

  2. Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity Reassigned Time for the 2014-2015 Academic Year:

    Academic Affairs is pleased to announce plans for the 2014-15 faculty Research, Scholarly and Creative Activities (RSCA) Award. Academic Affairs plans to allocate $1 million, the largest campus amount ever allocated to support faculty research, scholarly and creative activities. Please be aware that the availability of funds to support this program is subject to modification based on changes to CSULB funding and the State budget.

    Application Deadline - 5.00 p.m. February 3, 2014 to the College Office.

    Faculty members who receive awards are required to submit a Report of Work Accomplished by announced deadlines to the respective College Dean’s office.

    Academic Senate policy 11-08 Section 3.2 Adobe PDF Document dictates the competitive process by which reassigned time will be awarded. Individual College Councils are responsible for determining the criteria for applying, evaluating and recommending RSCA reassigned time.
